Hon Ruby Hutchison MLC

Epilepsy WA was founded by the Hon Ruby Hutchison MLC in 1963. Ruby was the first female member of the Legislative Council and an incredible visionary who believed in and fought hard for a “fair go” for all. Her story is remarkable and inspiring.

Our CEO, Emma Buitendag, was honored to be asked to feature in this documentary about Ruby which was commissioned by CHOICE and directed by Julian Morrow, best known for his work on the award winning ABC Series, The Chaser.

Epilepsy WA has been supporting the WA community since 1963 when Ruby first founded the organisation, then known as The West Australian Epilepsy Association. 1 in 25 West Australians will be diagnosed with epilepsy, to learn more about epilepsy and Epilepsy WA’s extensive services click here.
