SUDEP Action Day falls on Wednesday 18th of October in 2023 and is a special day when we remember those who have sadly been lost to epilepsy. It’s important that we take this opportunity to show our support and stand with their friends and families. SUDEP Action Day also provides an occasion to start vital conversations about epilepsy and how we can empower those living with epilepsy to be aware of the risks associated with seizures and how those risks can be reduced.
As we approach SUDEP Action Day we wanted to share with our community, this video from Dr Nicholas Lawn, eminent Epileptologist whom many of our community know from his work at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital and other hospitals in WA. This talk was given at the Epilepsy WA 2021 conference, and you will hear Dr Lawn speak openly about SUDEP and the steps that everyone living with epilepsy can strive to take, in order to be empowered to reduce risk.
Finally, the Perth Station on Wellington Street will be lighting up purple on the evening of SUDEP Action Day, to help raise awareness of SUDEP and to remember loved ones lost. A poignant singular landmark illumination display on this special day, at this prominent central location on the train network, signifies connecting the epilepsy community across WA and shining a voice for Epilepsy Warriors and their friends and families state-wide.
